To Gateway’s Young Adults’ Third Annual “Caledonia Spring Food Drive” Webpage!
Our food drive is a prayerfully considered, Spirit lead initiative to bless the community and fellowship with our church. We have ambitious, but achievable goals that we are pursuing with courage and excitement in the knowledge that, our Lord and Savior goes before us and our church stands behind us.
From this page you can learn about our food drive, interact with our map of Caledonia which is divided into manageable routes, and even sign up a team or individual from our easy to use online sign up form.

Spring Food Drive in a Nutshell

The 2019 Food Pick-up date is Saturday, May 11. This means that about one week before, those signed up for bag drop off will go out and deliver bags between May 2 and 7.

Bag deliverers will knock on the doors in their route to hand someone a bag and flyer/food list. If there is no one to hand a bag to, leaving the bag at the door where it won't blow away is fine.

On May 11 at 8:30AM, everyone will meet at Gateway church for Coffee, Prayer and Instructions. They will then travel to their routes. Runners will then go door to door knocking and asking for food donations, collecting food and dropping it in their driver's vehicle.

Once all the food in a route has been collected, drivers will bring the food back to Gateway Church where it will be weighed and sorted by food sorters. Everyone is encouraged to come back to the church after the food is collect for lunch, fellowship and celebration of a job well done.

Further instructions will be sent by email as needed. Drivers may be called by organizers on May 11 as a way of contacting their group.

Drivers = Those who drive a vehicle to carry food for a route, keeping the car close to the runners.

Runners = Those who go door to door collecting food and dropping it in their drivers vehicle.

Food Sorters = Those who stay at the church and sort the collected food into boxes for the food bank.

Check out our interactive map and become familiar with your route. Click on the routes for detailed instructions and to see if they are still available.

There are still lots of roles for those who wish to help. If you are looking for a role in this years food drive but don't know what to do you can sign up for "Anything" and someone will get back to you.

What you need to know

  • This is a Family Event! There is a job for everyone

  • SATURDAY MORNING EVENT! Routes will only take approx. 1.5 - 2.5 hours to complete with 2-3 runners and one driver

  • All the food from one route should fit in a Van, SUV or Truck but drop off points have been arraigned if your vehicle becomes full

  • All food and donations will go to the Caledonia Food Bank. Donations in excess of what the Caledonia Food Bank can accept will go to neighboring Haldimand food banks

  • This is a great opportunity for High-School students to get volunteer hours

  • If you are wondering, our #1 need is groups of 3-4 to sign up to drop off bags and pick up food for one route. If you don't have a vehicle that's fine, we'll pair you with a driver

Volunteers under the age of 18 MUST submit a signed physical copy of the permission form.

Forms are available in the church Cafe.

Matthew 25:35-40 New International Version (NIV)

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
